What You Can Learn From Spam Will Help You In Your Email Marketing Campaign

As much as I and everyone else in the world hates to receive spam emails, they actually can be somewhat useful to you. Now you are probably wondering what the heck I am talking about, take a second and think about everything you know about spam. Outside of being annoying and filling up your inbox, the spam that you receive can tell you exactly what not to do when creating your email marketing campaign. However, if you still do not want to give spam the time of day, I have laid out some of the basic tips that you can learn from spam.

Receive Permission

How many spam emails do you receive that you have actually signed up for? Probably none and this is exactly why you need to only send your email newsletter to those who actually signed up for it. Otherwise you are no better than a spammer and probably will not see any benefit from doing so.

Stop when necessary

Another thing I have noticed about spam emails is the inability to have the sender stop sending them. If you lay out a clear and easy why to let your users opt-out, they will realize that your messages are not spam and may stick with you.

Be nice

Dont try to force your readers to open your emails by adding capital letters an explanation points to your subject lines. Instead, tell them what is in your newsletter and how it will help them if they read it.

Who are you?

Make sure that your readers know who you are and how to get a hold of you. Spam messages never contain sender information or how to get a hold of the person sending the messages (Probably for good reason). However, your company will be more than willing to help out your customers, so make sure to add contact information to your emails.

Stop

Another thing I have noticed about the spam emails that I get is that they continually send the same emails over and over again. Therefore, make sure that you limit the amount of times you send your newsletter out. A good rule of thumb is no more than once a week, otherwise your emails will quickly become annoying and too repetitive.

As you can see, spam does actually serve a purpose, even if it is only for a little while. While these are just a few tips to think about, dont be afraid to look at some of your spam emails to get ideas and tips on what not to do in your email marketing campaign.
