Targeted Email Marketing Intro

Targeted email marketing means different things to different people, but basically true targeted emailing is sending out emails to groups of people who have been identified as being potentially most responsive to the objective of the email. If you are emailing offers of free cosmetic samples, you dont target the older male age groups.

If you want to be involved in targeted email marketing, therefore, you must have an intimate knowledge of the product you are marketing, and what demographic and age groups it will appeal to. If you have an email list that you feel would be appropriate for the product you are marketing in your email, then you could target your email to that group. There are several pointers that you could use to determine this, and enable you to reduce your list to a more suitable sub-list, if we want to use that expression. Let me explain that better.

You might have 10,000 email addresses in your targeted email marketing list of which 2,000 have recently purchased something from you. Thats a good percentage! Of these, 500 have purchased through a previous email offer. A targeted emailing would be aimed precisely at these 500. Thats what targeted email marketing is, but most people would send emails to all 10,000. However, for a successful campaign you should target those most likely to buy. In that way you do not inundate all the rest of the 10,000 with emails they do not want. You could persuade them to deregister from your list.

One word of warning: for your targeted email marketing campaign be sure to obey any SPAM laws in your jurisdiction or the jurisdictions to which you mail.
