Older Cat Care

Older cat care health problems can come up as the cat gets on in years. Older cats are regarded as one who is 10 years and above. Cats give as good as they get and as long as you keep on caring for your cat, the more your cat will love you no matter what age your feline is. Older cat care may need a little more medical attention to sort out health issues which arise but with the right care and attention, a cats life span can extend 15 years.

Older cats have health changes as the body gets older, just like you and me. Youll notice that as the cat gets older, its temperament becomes more relaxed and it will tend to sleep more often. Because of this, the muscles are not used as much as they did when they were younger and will lose the strength. Again, this will lead to a restriction in the cats mobility as the muscles do not get enough exercise.\r Also, older cats eat less as they lose their taste buds and sense of smell. This will lead to a loss in weight. And as the teeth get bad, it becomes more difficult to eat. An older cat tends to drink less and this is always a concern but this is the life changing patterns of an older cat.

Older cat care should include more regular check ups at the vets to make sure they stay in good health. Your cats diet should also be changes as it gets older to a more specialist style of cat food designed for older cats. Your vet will take regular blood samples and keep an eye on your cats internal organs. It is always best to have the check ups to ensure you can spot any early indicators of oncoming problems.

Take time to look for the right cat food for the age of your cat as this will fulfill all its nutritional needs. This is important as with older cats, nutrition is a key factor in their health. Younger cats are ok with dry cat food but older cats will cope with soft cat food better. The softness of the food will be easily controlled with the weaker teeth of an older cat.

Keep an eye on your cat as it gets older. You will need to respond to dietary changes and more medical attention. You may need to help them along from time to time and let them sleep or relax a little more. So show some love and let the older cat be an older cat.
