How to Get Affordable Health Insurance in North Carolina

Every parent knows the importance of health insurance for their children. Children can become ill quickly and without medical care, they can suffer long term effects. For families in North Carolina who are struggling to make ends meet, health insurance may be one of the necessities they give up. If budget constraints are keeping a parent from being able to afford health insurance for their minor children in this state, there is help.

The NC Health Choice for Children Plan provides basic health care coverage to children under the age of 19 whose parents fall within certain earning guidelines. Any parent who doesnt currently have health insurance for their child, and who is considered a low income earner should apply for these benefits. If a person earns too much to qualify for this particular government funded program, there are still ways they can find an affordable health plan that will cover their children as well as themselves.

One easy way to cut costs on your health insurance is to not request coverage for any extras. Typically vision care coverage, dental coverage and hearing aids are not covered under basic health care insurance plans. If an individual feels they could benefit from vision or dental coverage they can seek that out as an addition to their policy or they can buy a separate policy that only provides that type of coverage.

Some plans offer a premium that simply seems too good to be true. Unfortunately not all agents doing business in North Carolina are actually licensed to do so. If you purchase a policy from them, you may never be able to use those benefits. Its always a good idea to confirm that both the agent and the company they represent are authorized to sell health insurance in the state. This can be done by contacting the North Carolina Department of Insurance.
