Fixing Laminate Floor Scratches To Restore Your Floors Shine and Beauty
When you first installed your laminate floor the shine was more then likely beautiful and bright. However after time the finish can deteriorate and scratches can develop. Fixing laminate floor scratches can rejuvenate the shine and beauty your floor once had.
First you will have to determine if you want to fix the scratches or just refinish the entire floor. Most laminate flooring will allow one or two refinishing before they need to be replaced. If you decide that you want the floors refinished you should get at least three quotes from reputable local flooring contractors and see if the project fits within your budget.
Although not all laminate flooring can be refinished, and if your floor is in terrible shape in may need to be replaced instead of refinished.
If you decide you are going to fix the laminate floor scratches you will need to pick up a flooring repair kit from a local hardware store. This is nothing more then color matched putty that will allow you to fill in large scratches an chips.
Many kits are available from the manufactures of the flooring and sticking with the same brand of scratch filler is a good idea to get the closet color match for your floor.
It is always best to start in a low visibility part of your flooring to test the color match. The last thing any home owner wants is a big unmatched streak in the middle of their living room.
If the color is slightly off you can always buy a lighter or darker shade of filler putty and increase or decrease the color shade to more closely match your floor. Always let the test areas dry 24 hours to be certain of the final color.
Once you have the color matched just follow the manufactures application instructions and start fixing the laminate floor scratches that are reducing the beauty and shine of your floor.
