Choosing The Right International Health Insurance
If you are planning to visit Australia on a long-term, one of the most important things to take into consideration is having the right international health insurance plan. This will give you a feeling of security even if you manage to qualify for the local government's health plan.
There are several large insurance companies that offer international health insurance plans. A basic insurance will cover in-patient and in-hospital treatments. This means that you will be able to cover physician's charges and hospital accommodation. Included in the plan are also charges of a surgery, radiology, pathology, local ambulance and oncology.
However, you can also go for a more enhanced plan which includes outpatient visits, acupuncture, physiotherapy, and consultations. At times, you might have the option of including at-home nursing care and emergency visit to the dentist. However, this depends on the options your plan providers has.
If you are looking for a more extensive coverage, be prepared to pay higher premiums. This plan covers organ transplant, home nursing, childbirth, psychiatry, and consultations with a GP, ear specialist, eye specialist, dietitian, chiropractor and osteopath. Even diagnostic tests, scans, X-rays, MRI and prescription medicines will be covered.
However, you should realize that all health plans have some restrictions and/or exclusions. If you have pre-existing condition, it is typically not covered by a health insurance. Likewise, if you take part in a dangerous sport and that is the reason for you to go to Australia, your insurance provider many not cover you. Other exclusions include cosmetic treatment, alcohol abuse, treatment for STDs and self-inflicted injuries.
Most international health insurance plans do pay for treatment connected to menopause, pregnancy and childbirth. However, plans might cover pregnancy and childbirth if the insure becomes pregnant after taking the health insurance plan.
